On 6/18/09, The Times newspaper in Ottawa
Illinois did an article on the problem called
"Properties with Vermilion frontage losing
ground". The article has photos of the
damage as well as interviews with some of
the residents at risk of losing everything. You

On 7/3/09, the Pantagraph newspaper out of
Bloomington Illinois picked up the story.
They wrote an article called "50-year-old
engineering decision haunting riverfront
property owners near Streator". This article
has more of the history of what is the main
causes of the landslides. You can view the

The Times newspaper in Ottawa posted an
article on 4/24/07 entitled "STREATOR:
Officials unsure if road cave-in near
landslide is related" regarding a slide that
closed 2 businesses. Insurance will not pay
and no one has taken any responsibility.
This location is just up the river from the
affected homes. Since this slide and
temporary repair, the other homes began to
see significant erosion. You can view the

The Times also did an article on 2/14/08
entitled "Landslide resolution doesn't
deserve funding" relating to the possibility of
grants being applied for to help fix the
problem. All financial responsibility was to be
placed on the residents, as this is private

On 4/6/07, The Times posted another article
entitled "Landslide simply an act of Mother
Nature". This article states the river did
change course, but notes because the slide
was on private property, there was nothing
