Photos of Damage
These videos show the damage from the Vermilion
River. We will show evidence from the not so distant
past and current situation.
These show the widening of the river to the left and the decking in the 1st 2 photos that has been
pulled off the hill. All those trees are gone.
This is taken from the top of the hill. You can see how
far down it is to the river. The changing of the river is
affecting the properties all the way at the top.
Here is the back of another yard. Note
the wood marking the end of the yard
before the hill begins to drop down.
This is a photo of the same spot. Notice the wood at the
end is gone and the back of the yard is just past the tree.
Most of the damage has been in the last 2 years.
This shows where the dropped land is. The land
has fallen 2 to 3 feet from the top and is now in
jeopardy of going the rest of the 100 foot drop to
the river.
This section of patio has raised up dramatically in
the last year. There is a brick oven on this slab
that is now leaning back.
This is the back corner of the brick oven. Notice
the large crack that has appeared in the last year
and how it leans down. This is the back of the
yard at the top of the hill right behind the garage.
This is the remains of a dog pen. The back half
fell over 4 feet dropping the doghouse down with
it. Notice how the top of the doghouse is lower
than the brick it was as high as before.
This was taken from the bridge showing the section
on the 3rd photo. You can see all the down trees and
the newly formed rapids. The river curved from the
right, now if goes straight to the hill.
This shows the opposite bank. Notice the rocks
on the left and center. Most of these are new and
they have come from recent slides upstream. This
causes the river flow to go right into the hill.
These 2 photos were taken of decking on one of the properties going to the river on 7/7/05. There
were many trees at that time between the decking and the river.
Here is an updated photo taken 4/4/10. Prior to
this photo being taken, another 2 1/2 feet of yard
was lost to the river.
Here is another shot taken on 4/4/10.
This updated photo from 4/4/10 shows more of
where the yard had fallen. Notice the large
section that has dropped and how far down it has
fallen.
This update from 4/4/10 shows more of the dog
pen going down the hill. This was taken form the
right side of the picture to the left.
This photo taken 4/4/10 show a bigger gap
behind the garage that is show on the video page.
